STA Aquatic Tutor Status
Now booking for the STA Aquatic Tutor Course January/February 2025 This course will be delivered face-to-face in our interactive online classroom with STA Train the tutor Lynn Goring-Crook, an experienced STA trainer in both online and face2face delivery.
On successful completion of the STA Aquatic Tutor course you will become an STA Probationary Tutor in your specialty:

Swimming Tutor - STA Tutors can deliver the STA Award in Teaching Swimming and STA Certificate in Teaching Swimming.

Baby and Pre School Tutor - STA Tutors can deliver the STA Award in Aquatic Teaching - Baby and Pre-School
-
Open Water Tutor - STA Tutors can deliver the STA Award in Coaching Open Water Swimming.
(further specialties can be added on becoming a full STA tutor, so don't panic if you want to tutor everything!)
Not only will Lynn tutor you on the course but mentor you through the post course requirements to achieve your full tutor status. This will include regular one-to-ones post course, on demand support, access to resources and other mentors and making introductions for you with owners of STA Approved Training Centres looking to employ tutors. There is also the opportunity to become one of The Swim Surgery Tutors plus be put in touch with other approved training centres across the country.

- The course is ONLINE! Our course is online in our interactive classroom meaning you can access and join where ever you are making it easier to fit around your busy schedule! We will ensure you learn how to tutor both in face to face environments but also online. Delivering online isn't the future, it is the here and now, Lynn will show you how online delivery can not only match, but in some cases beat face to face whilst also sharing how vast experience on how to deliver in a classroom.
-FREE post course support and mentoring for life! When your course finishes, your time with us won't! There will be conditions to complete to become a full tutor, this can be shadowing or co-tutoring. We will help you be able to complete this and put you in contact with other training centres also. It can be daunting being a new tutor but Lynn will be on hand post course to support you all the way. We offer this service free of charge. There is even the chance to work for The Swim Surgery and if you need help setting up your own training centre, we can help with that also!
- FREE CPDs - Anyone attending our Aquatic Tutor course will also receive the CPD Icebreakers, Energizers and Brain Breaks. This game changing CPD presented by Lynn was a hit with over 200 tutors from a number of different awarding organisations when it launched in December 2022, the CPD and resources will help kick start your tutoring career.

Hold the STA Certificate in Teaching Swimming, STA Baby and Pre-School or STA Open Water (for a minimum of 2 years)

Knowledge of STA Teaching Swimming and Aquatic Teaching qualifications

Up to date knowledge of your specialty subject teaching methods and technical knowledge

Hold a valid STA safeguarding children, vulnerable adults and young people certificate or acceptable equivalent.

Experience teaching in your specialty subject. 200 hours practical teaching hours within the last 5 years
Assessment on this course includes the following:

Meeting the person specification of being an STA tutor

4 x presentations/micro teaches including three technical presentations in your area of expertise, the last of which is 20minutes long. You will be briefed before the course on your topics

This is not a qualification, it is a course and not a guaranteed pass. Those who pass will be given individual conditions to become a full STA Aquatic Tutor. These can include co-tutoring and being moderated on your first assessment and are at the discretion of the Aquatic train the tutor to decide what is best so you can tutor/assess solo.
To access this course you will need the following:

A computer, laptop, tablet or phone with functioning mic and camera to join Zoom for theory and access zoom, along with Nearpod and our interactive games (no prior download needed).

A computer, laptop, tablet or phone, and gmail account to access the google classroom where all pre course paperwork and comms will take place.

A computer or laptop, tablet or phone for accessing and editing documents such as word and pdf.
-
Access and be able to use microsoft powerpoint, google slides or similar for developing presentations to support your microteaches.

Pen, paper, notepad as needed.
