If you have a passion for open water swimming then this course is perfect to take you to the next level in being able to teach and coach others.
Our course is inclusive and open to ALL - from Dippers, Social swimmers, Recreational swimmers and Competitive swimmers all the way to Channel swimmers, European, World, and Olympic medalists - EVERYONE has attended our courses where you will find a warm welcome and your 'tribe' to enjoy this course with. Lifelong friends and swim opportunities await led by our expert team of tutors Karl Penman and Helen Bull.
This OFQUAL regulated qualification will prepare you for all aspects of open water coaching, from planning, coaching and evaluating swimming sessions.
Come and join us in our virtual interactive classroom to kick off your courses as we walk you through the theory side of the course on the 1st and 2nd February 2025
Then come to beautiful Hayling Island, a blue flag beach popular with swimmers, on for an exciting day of practical to complete your course.
Our one-day practical on 4th May is more than completion of your course- this is an experience day where you will also be coached having plenty of opportunity to experience the water, make like-minded friends from around the UK, have a BBQ and hot drinks provided throughout. Plenty of pictures are taken throughout the day, including from our professional drone - all of which will be shared with you.
Your will train and support you through this course, passing on their experience of open water swimming and coaching. You will be coached by your tutor and coach each other as part of the course.
At The Swim Surgery we tutor to the highest standard in a fun yet informative way and our pastoral care is second to none, with learner support throughout the evenings of your course and post course as you start your career.
STA Level 2 Award in Open Water Coaching:
1st and 2nd February online 9-5pm
4th May practical in Hayling Island 10-4pm
5th May- log onto our Cirrus system to take your theory exam from the comfort of your own home. Your exam is online using our CIRRUS system. Log on for 1 hour at a time to suit you.

Assessment on this qualification includes the following:

Meeting the contact hours by attending all the dates and times

Completion of a multi choice theory exam

Completion of practical teaching a range of sessions to different ability levels including a final assessment

Work product completion in the form of a portfolio made up of the following:
-3 session plans
-1 evaluation
- Risk assessment
Access to Learning:
To access this course you will need the following:

A computer, laptop, tablet or phone with functioning mic and camera to join Zoom for theory and access your e-manual along with Nearpod and our interactive games (no prior download needed).

A computer, laptop, tablet or phone for completing work products via pdf or word. This will be writing and editing documents.

Access to the practical face to face bringing swim costume, wet suit, hat, and tow buoys, gloves and booties as you wish. Robie or other towels and plenty of spare clothes.

A computer or laptop to access your CIRRUS exam via Chrome. This CANNOT be done on a phone or tablet. If you can not access CIRRUS it may be possible to take a paper exam. Please contact us to discuss.

Pen and paper to make notes throughout and on the practical to fill in risk assessment.

Pre-requesties
-Be at least 18 years old
-Hold current membership to STA
-Submit a CV of open water experience. See above, don't worry you don't have to be an Olympic swimmer, you just need to write down what swimming experience you have in open water.
-Hold either a swimming teaching, coaching or triathlon coaching qualification. If not then complete the open water coaching online up-skill programme from the STA at www.sta.co.uk
